How Re-Introduction of Service Works
A re-introduction of service, or re-intro, is a line-of-sight inspection required by electrical utilities before power is restored to a property that’s been disconnected. A certified third-party agency must confirm the electrical system meets National Electrical Code requirements before the utility can restore service. The contractor who performed any electrical work on the property can’t serve as the inspector. Pennsylvania requires an independent, certified electrical underwriter to make that determination, and that’s the role we fill.
Re-intro inspections are commonly triggered when:
- Electrical service has been disconnected for six months or more
- Fire or property damage has affected the electrical system
- Major permitted work such as new construction or renovation has been completed
- A utility has identified a safety hazard requiring disconnection
- A non-payment disconnection has occurred
Once our team arrives, the on-site inspection itself takes about 15 minutes. If the inspection confirms compliance, we submit a certificate of compliance to the Authority Having Jurisdiction within 48 hours. If it doesn’t pass, you receive a clear list of required repairs, and we schedule a re-inspection once those are completed.
